I have two male fish that look like this

I thought they were rosy tetra, but the LFS's say that these are rosy tetra

They may look similar....but they are not the same fish, mine are paler have not got the white tips to the fins they are not the same shape really, the shops rosy tetra dont have the even body shape mine do

I have seen females and males in the stores so I am SURE they are not simply the male of the same species, pls pls help

Hi ketyana,

Ihad 12 of these and there was quite a variation in the vividness of their colour...

....I'd say both are rosy tetra Hyphessobrycon rosaceus - it may be a sexual difference - though I thought that the females had also a red tip on the fin  .

Pic and info on mine HERE

www :)

Isnt the first picture of Bleeding heart tetras?? you can just see the red heart shape on them if you look.

No they not bleeding hearts

I know what you mean, but there isnt that marking on them, I think that must be a fault in the piccy

A strange fault for a pic to have red heart shapes on them by some weird mistake. :/

Yep you are right they are both pictures of Rosy tetras. (after looking at more picture)

silly me :*)

Do a search on Bentosi White Tip tetra :) My LFS has both White Tips (which I bought) and Rosies. Whilst the tanks were far apart, it was difficult to tell the difference, but once they were put in adjacent tanks, subtle differences became more obvious.

Also, for the record, my Bentosi's colour changed from the silver you see in the pic, to a darker red than any Rosy I've seen. They are almost transparent too, whereas I don't believe Rosies are.

From the pics you have posted, you can tell the difference in the fins as well. The first is Rosy, the second Bentosi! :)
