How big do rosy barbs really get?

I've found a very big discrepancy between different fish profile sites. I've ssen them with an adult size listed anywhere from 3.5" to 6". When you're talking about 7 fish in a 46 gallon, that difference is a big amount. I'd like to add a couple more rainbowfish but at the same time don't want my tank to be overstocked!!!

Thanks :)

I saw them at the Aquarium in Denver on Saturday and they were six inches. There are some fish though that will get to a certain size in the wild or zoo/aquarium environments but not the same in the home tank. I don't know how big they will get in your tank, but personally I have never seen them at 6 inches in someone's home ;)

don't worry about the tank size and over stocking it yah know that you can over stock just to a surten extent. 8)

Daveo - Yeah, I know I *can* overstock it to a certain extent, but with 7 fish and a possible discrepancy of 2" per fish, that's 14" we're talking about and that's a fair percentage of a 46g tank.....

Thanks Sorrell & acds!

Turns out to be a moot point, the rosy barbs are going back and I'm turning the tank into a rainbowfish and corydoras tank!
