Hello folks,

I have a male and female rosy barb in my 28 gallon, the female is really fat with eggs I presume. They both dance around each other then do spawning runs through the plants, but she never seems to lose the weight, could this cause her any problems?

its hard to get a pic of them close up because they are always on the move, they both look really healthy with vivid colours, but just worried her.

any ideas guys?

cheers Chish

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as she is active and looks healthy, she'll be fine; i have quite a few female danios of various sorts and WCMM's (white cloud mountain minnows) and no matter how many times they spawn, the females always seem to look fat.
I know they do actually go through the whole process as i have raised danio fry in particular from these spawnings myself, so i would assume that it is generally normal for adult female small egg laying characin or cyprinid type fish to look egg laden even when breeding  .

okey dokey cheers tokis for putting my mind at rest. :good:
