I got 4 rope fish a couple of days ago. one died the day after and just got home today to find another dead. about 1" of the body in variouse parts goes shiney and hard and when I'v taken them out, it is quite rough. its like the scales are pulled in really tight. (not sticking out but really flat. I just want to know if this can spread and is there a cure?

You may have purchase some that came from slightly brakish water, I have heard that these fish have been found in weak brakish waters. Maybe not your answer but I thourght I would say it incase.

They can drown if they do not have access to air. Despite having a complete set of gills they need access to air.

well, theres a good 4" of room above the water until the cover glasses. I'm pretty sure that it is a disease and that it was abad batch at the lfs. I have a lso lost a jaguar cat.
