Rope Lights For Loach Tank

My next tank I want to setup is going to be a 6 foot loach tank, Zebra, Yoyo, a few clowns etc. I've been reading up on them and they seems to like low/subdued lighting. I could go with 2x 36" t8 lights like in my community tank but that is almost $170 and I saw over on a loach forum someone use rope lights for their tank. 12' for $10 seems like a good deal and I could potentially double it up if I had to and still have it end up cheap.

Has anyone ever used Rope lights in their aquarium before? I'm trying to make this tank good, but save on cash as well
