what can you all tell me about rope fish?

we have two, dont know how to tell gender or anything

The first one is named Mr. Wiggles the second is Mr. SideWinder (aka Mr. Winder)

have any of you breed rope fish? why do they dig? is it just to form their own little den? Is it bad for the paecos to use them as a snack bar? its kind of funny watching the plaecoes do a strip clean from one end to the other on our rope fish

Hi I've got three ropefish. I've had them a while now with no problems

they are easy fish to keep f you can keep them in the tank by blocking all holes. I lost two I had last year in a different tank when it didn't appear there was even a hole

They eat as much as you'll give. Mine have bloodwrom, brine shrimp, frozen prawns and catfish pellets

They live peacefully with my other fish. They need to be kept with other ropes.

Mine have never buried. They tend to hang in the floating plants

Whats a pleaco? if you mean a pleco I don't think its a good thinng for it to be sucking on your fish because it could do them damage or leave them vulnerable for infection

They eat bloodworm, prawn, muscle etc, they get very big and need a tank of about 50gal. Mine has never dug. It is VERY bad for plecos to suck on them - it could kill them.

I havnt seen the new pleco's do it (The bala shark killed the old ones) but when the old ones did it it was a very quick end to end. But the plecos did suck our snail right out of it's shell after the bala shark managed to chew on the shell enough, bala shark also killed my female beta... we no longer have said bala shark.

i've never heard of bala sharks being aggressive.

I dont know why ours was, we were told they wernt that agressive. we watched it chasing and attacking the other fish, once it bit First (the huge Pleco we used to have approc 5-6 long) and First bit him back, can plecos bite? shoot the bala didnt like it none the less.

the bala killed 4 of our plecos.

Our plecos were named
Davinchi, First, Spot, Of, Mr, E, (Davinchi's first spot of mystery) It killed all of them but First and Of
I kind of miss davinchi because since he had sucked all the colouring off a plastic frog in his last tank (someone gave him to us) his spots were BRIGHT orange with a tinge of pink and some kelly green/grass green

We replaced some of the plecos now with Nes, Quick, and Powder.

Still havnt gotten a new female beta so our boy beta remains lonely but now has grown his fins back, the bala needless to say took fancy to his fins.

The only fish we had that were not harrased by the bala were our rope fish, if not swimming around they usually stayed in their den under the decorative rock

I'd get rid of the sharks and try again with out a pest in there

We have long since got rid of it, i gave my fiance an ultamatum with it, either take it to the pet store or it was going to make some animal in the forest behind the house a nice snack. Shane took it to the store in process it proceeded to bite several holes in the bag, we thought ahead and had double bagged it.

Back onto the ropefish topic

Concerning live food, we will at times get live guppies, i usually ask for 16 and get around 25-30. About how much do they eat in one night? During the night the guppy level drops from that 25-30 down to usually about 12-15. Between the two rope fish and the beta I cant think their stomach is that big. The guppies usually arnt that big usually about 1-2 cm long with a few fry in there. And every now and then they will let one, a single guppy live and grow for a few weeks before eating it, is that normal?
