I have some rocks that I’ve removed from an old tank, that did have algae on. Not a lot but some.

They’ve been out the tank now for 2-3 weeks. I like the look of the slight green colour inside the cracks and I’m wanting to re use them on a new high tech setup.

My question will the algae be okay? Will it bring it back as it was it will it if died of by now?

What kind of rocks? If they are not porous you can do a very weak bleach solution to soak them in (1 part bleach, 9 parts water) George Farmer has a good video on this. Then once you have it soaked for a while you rinse them thoroughly in fresh water.

An other option is to get something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08PY9WK2W/?tag=

I've got this set and its so useful for the money throw the copper brush away straight away though as not worth the risk, not sure where brass sits I dont use that one either but the nylon and stainless steel ones are so good. ADA sell a very similar metal pick to this one too but thats £35 from them haha!

I believe the OP wants the algae to stay. He wants to know if its still alive

Ah. Small enough to microwave. That'll kill algae for sure.

The algae should be dead by now

hose the rocks off and put them in the tank
