I think you can, as long as they don't have any pesticides or fertilizer on them. Maybe you should stick them in some boiling water just to be safe. This'll also kill any bugs that are on them :p
 
Most rocks are fine as long as they're well cleaned. You can't use limestone (If you're unsure put some vinegar on the rock, if it bubbles it's limestone) because it raises the PH of the tank.
 
Also check there are no veins of metal running through them (such as copper, which is toxic to fish).

Sandstone, granite and slate are safe.
