Rock To Tank Proportion

Hi guys n girls.

just about to embark on setting up a marine tank after years of keeping tropical fish. i have just ordered my tank which is a river reef 48l tank which has had some good reviews and will be arriving on friday. i will be building up the tank slowly and after putting in the salt water i will be introducing live rock. firstly does anyone know or reccomend the proportion of live rock to a 48ltr tank. also this is the 1st time i am doing this so if there is any advice people would like to offer i am all ears. to be very cheeky if there is anyone out there who is willing to give free live rock away then do let me know! (always worth the chance of asking!!)

Can't imagine you will find anyone giving away free rock

If you look at the top of the page on the right you will see Aquarium Calculator - it is very handy for working bits out:

the calculator on there says add about 5 K but I would put a bit more, probably about 8K

If you are in the UK you should be able to pick up lr from about a fiver a kilo from a reefer breaking down a tank, try loking on UR classified - if you are unsure what UR is send me a PM

48 litres is very small, what are your plans? Maybe a goby shrimp combo?

hi steffi. thanks for the advice. it is a small tank and i am only looking at maybe 3 fish. i want it to be decorative and colourful more to do with the live rock and some shrimps. what is your tank like? you been doing this for long? and yes.... i know.... looking for free live rock was a cheeky one but you got to try! the place where i go is charging £12.99 per kilo. we do live down south so things are probably double to everywhere else can you recommend anywhere to get it for as you say a fiver a kilo? thanks x

hi steffi. i'm new to this site and stuff. south for me is chichester, uk. nice place, quite... ideal for a 30's party goe'r!! so this ultimatereef... good for marine aquariums? think 3 fish is too many for a 48l tank? thanks for your advice by the way. nice to have a hand! x

by the way im selling 20kg of Live rock for £60 or £4 per KG..

i had around 27kg but used 7..

im in oxfordshire if thats anywhere close to you.
