yeah well what i was thinking of was gathering rocks from around my area, i have this slate-like rock that comes from these caves near me(i shaped it and put it in my tanks) and i live near a river and i was wondering do you guys think i could make a few bucks(not looking for alot but i figure 2-3$+per rock) per rock if i sold them on ebay?(the buyer pays S$H) i relize anyone can go get rocks from around them but i am a poor college student who NEEDS cash + i would pick out nice rocks and show pics of them...

think its worth it?/anyone wanna buy any?(jk kinda, unless you really want some then pm me)

i didnt put this in the buy/sell forum because its mainly a question and its a question for all the aquatic(sp?) people who use rocks in there tanks... and if they wanna buy some rocks or whatever then thats ok but that was not my main intent(yet, if it does become that ill make a thread in the appropreate forum)

There are people out there that will buy ANYTHING. I personally wouldn't buy any since there are many nice ones around here, but there are many people who would.

Just be prepared for strange looks/emails/etc. But I believe it will pay off in the long run.

hey fish stores sell them for a ton of money might be worth a try.l

My LFS sells broken slate for $3.99/lb.
Today I went to a garden center that sells their broken slate for $0.20/lb so a smart shopper might think you're a rippoff

same garden center sold me LARGE river rock 4 big pieces probably total weight of 15-20 lbs for 1 dollar.

thanks for your help so fast, ok a question you think i should sell by pound or by individual rock? i was thinking per rock(just pricing them differently you know a large rock 10$ a med rock 5-7$ a small rock 2-3$ or something like that)

:p :p :p

There are sure to be buyers for them on E bay. However, have you considered that shipping rocks could be kinda costly?

Koda

i'd assume more people would be intrested in aquarium wood, if you can find some, the price of wood is expensive at lfs's

the buyer pays the shipping and handling i dont, so i dont care...

PLUS what kind of wood would be required? i practicly live in the woods... info on aquarium wood plz :)

For wood, you'd want driftwood, I'd think.

And, for info, most places that I know of sell rock by the pound.

Perhaps you don't care but, the buyer will and only a complete idiot would not realise that it's going to be expensive to ship ROCK!!!

Maybe a better idea would be to approach a local (independent) LFS and offer them your rocks for slightly less than they pay at the moment?

Or, how about this - rather than trying to come up with a get-rich-quick money making scam, why don't you get a proper job in MacDonalds, like all other students???

don't listen to him/her  scams often work, as long as you set your mind to them!

btw, McDonalds is one of the lowest paying jobs out there

i do work at mcdonalds :D

just regular drift wood? like what i find beside the river? :) w00t

correct me if im wrong(as i have no knowledge of wood in tanks) but wouldnt the drift wood just float around the top of the tank? unless you held it down w/ rocks...
