Ro Water And Tds

hi there basially i bought a new ro unit about 2 years ago and took 25litres from it , when i was first going to go into marines and never did, so since then it has been plumbed in but nothing drawn from it.till now i have drawn off and chucked the first 25-50litres away to flush it through.
just bought a new tds meter today, and took a reading from the ro unit and is 008
im using it for marine the water for a tank with just live rock just nowno corals or fish etc.
will it be ok?
and do you think ill have to replace the cartridges now if not how long till i should?
and which ones get replaced again and when??
also i have 2 containers of ro water from a while ago and is reading tds of 046
is this ok to use?
as would like to use it if its ok otherwise ill have to wait and run of some more
thanks

Dump the 45, the 8 should be fine.

Buy all the replacements to have on hand, then try to determine which stages need to be replaced.

what do u mean try to determine what needs replaced how do i do that? and which parts do you replace and how often?

Depending on how many modules your system has, each should contain a different product including membranes. fg was suggesting you replace the media or membranes etc. in what ever modules you have.

this is my ro unit here
Aquarium_Reverse__Osmosis__System.jpg

its a 3stage
so i will have the following is this right
5 micron sediment filter
gac filter
ro membrane
how often do these need replaced?
and if ive only run off 50-100litres since new but been sat for 2years, do i need to replace all or what parts?
im not sure what gpd it is, how do i determine this ?
is it just what the membrane is wether its 50 or 100?

The problem with the membrane is once wet it should be kept wet, when it dries out I think its not as good as before and won't filter properly.
Although you are getting a good reading. If you buy a DI unit to add on the end making it 4 stage, that will bring it back down to 0.
I way I am going with my new unit, is once tds rises, change the DI resin. I am keeping an eye on the tds after the membrane and before the DI, when this rises I was told firstly replace the first 2 filters. Last thing to replace is the membrane as it costs so much more!

Indeed - 008 is not going to be much of a problem :good:

Weeza is spot on when she says you must keep the membrane wet

My suggestions:

Buy two ball valves if you havent already got them
Buy an add on di unit

then, run your water through and I would not be at all surprised if that tds didnt come down to 000
and then of course, as a TFF salty side tradition, you have to take a photo and put it in your journel :p

how much will a di unit cost do you know?
and can you show me a pic of the ball valves think i know what you mean but just to be sure lol

You mean a pic of what?lol

You know i have never ever done a journal on a tank yet,
should i do one??

yes do a journal :good:

and here is a DI http://www.swelluk.com/aquarium/ro-units-397/refill-cartridges-membranes-399/d-d-300ml-deionising-pod-with-resin-247659.html or they have a 500ml one out of stock.

with a 10% discount too.....

i assume that all i need and just connect it to it. i assume this goes on the end of everything else yes?
now if i add this then i get basically 000
from now when should i replace each stage exactly?
also in my previous message what are the ball valves for exactly?
