Well think I am decided on skimmer and powerhead choice but now decided that buying an RO unit is definately the way to go.

Obviously I need to fill tank when I get it and from then on will need to run weekly changes so totalling about 60-100 litres a week. Going to plumb it in under the sink in the laundry room, so I can permanently have it running waste water into sink and the good RO into a 25 litre container, and can get those filled during evenings through the week I would think.

Can't seem to find any decent reviews on the things and they all look basically the same and offer the same features.

So question is really are there any I should definately avoid, looking at an Osmotics 50G a day job at the mo, also looked at TMC and DD ones.

Thanks in advance guys and girls.

A 50 gpd Ro unit will take 6-8hours to fill a 25 liter container dependant on your water pressure.

RO-Man is also a decent brand.

Like so much in this hobby there can be quite a difference in prices for what seems to be the same thing. Usually I have noticed the better brands offer better build quality or results. Just make sure the model you get will allow you to buy new filters in the future :)

How much is a typical run of the mill RO unit as might look into one myself. Only I'd want a portable one that could link up to my outside tap and put away when not in use. Are they big bulky units or small light weight things?

Thanks Ozzie will just do for the one with most available filters then as all the units seem the same price.
Woody the 50 gpd ones are all about £75-80 and 100gpd are about £100. Think most are designed to be plumbed in and at the rate it runs being outside could be a major problem in winter mate, and I'm pretty sure any freezing would completely kill an RO unit.
I may have to go for a couple of barrels and start making water ready for the tank to appear.

The osmotics ones are sound :good: ensure you buy one with a flush and if possible a tds meter (although you can buy the meter) - also get one one a di resin

If i were buying a new one:

75/100 litres a day - smaller are just so slow - it will take 6/8 to fill up a 25 litre otherwise, fine, if you are in all the time, not so great when it takes so long you forget it and it floods the kitchen!!

two ball valves - to ensure the membranes stay wet

DI resin

TDS meter

Flush

Ok thanks Seffie :good:

Just when I thought I had it sorted you pop up with ball valves and Resin?

So I'm looking and the TMC one appears to be an inline attachment as the DI resin. Looking further although others are 4 stage as opposed to 3 stage, the 4th stage doesn't appear to be a DI chamber?

So would this 100gpd TMC unit be suitable with this attached DI pod

How about this one? Dont forget the two ball valves! You need to put them on the foul water out and the clean water out pipes, helps keep the membranes wet, traps water in the pipes

Great thanks Seffie.

Went to order from Ro-man, created account went for that unit, some resin and an inline TDS meter grand total of £133. Went to checkout and the cheeky blighters want to charge me £9 for postage! Most peoples is free over £50, just can't bring myself to let someone make a profit out of the postage they charge.

So will have a trawl tomorrow and see where else has a similar set up.
