HI,

I'm 1 or 2 weeks from ending my cycle, and i've given my lighting to a friend to sort out the wiring, so now its time to think about plants and fish.

I'm actually looking to setu freshwater, but i know that a lot of marine keepers see it as essential to use RO water....so i've come to you for advice! :)

For the fish im looking to get Angelfish, cardinals and apistos...basically SA fish, but my PH is around 7.8/8 so i've been looking into getting an RO option as i'm not on a water meter. I've kept all sorts of fish in my tap water including marine, but this time want to get things perfect and hopefully get a breeding pair of angels.

I've found these 2types so far:

has a pressure gauge

same as above - but with inline TDS meter - also definately has quick connect plumbing

I believe there as seperate DI units you can add onto any of these if required?

I've been advised to get one from a well known brand, as i know someone who got a cheap one then when they stopped making them couldnt get replacement membranes etc.

So does anyone have an RO unit they recommend or any advice for me? DD seem to be well known, but the TMC one at least has a pressure gauge. is the TMC one a good make and shouldn't stop producing the spares?

thanks!

HappyGeorge has just been down this path and got a good online deal - if he doesnt pop up in this thread pm :good: him for a link.

A few things to remember:

It says it produces 50 gallons a day - it wont! more like 50 litres at best, so if you are going to need to do a lot of big water changes, you will be better off going for a 75/100 gallon.

Get the best you can afford: ensure it has a flush kit, DI filter and if possible a TDS meter (you can buy this). Also buy two ball valves so that you can keep the membranes wet at all times between uses.

As Seffie said just been researching this myself, you want a 4 stage unit with final resin chamber, heres the link to the one I have literally just this minute set up, and the membrane is just flushing before I connect the final Resin chamber, just did a quick calc and I think it will be about 150 litres every 12 hours. I think you can forget the stated figures unless you're going to drive it with a pump as the units are entirely dependant on pressure going in to produce the RO out.

Set up on this was simple and instructions were very clear, but the online or phone back up is there should you need it.

So here it is MY RO UNIT
