Ro System

it will be a higher costing thing since you will need to replace the filter very often, it is just a DI filter, like RO/DI but without the RO part. It would be fine for your 12 gallon but you will waste a lot of money on your 110 gallon. Get a faucet adaptor for an RO/DI system, you dont have to pierce a hole in the pipe, and piercing a hole is easy, took me less than a minute, put the clamp on, tighten it, screw in a needle into the pipe, connect RO system, unscrew, and your done.... I didnt tighten enough so i had a bit of a leak but thats fine with me....

most RO/DI filters come with a faucet adaptor, i got my RO/DI system off melevs reef and he gave me a saddle piercing valve and a faucet adaptor no extra charge.

You dont need to make a hole in the pipework these days as said above there are tap connectors which connect to outside taps or washing machine connectors.
Here is a washing machine "Y" connector to share the washing machine connection with your RO unit.

From your post I've just gone and ordered the small 36 gallon RO model from the above site which was reduced in price along with the "Y" connector and the Tap to connect the RO unit to the "Y" connector. Total price inc postage to Northern Ireland £64.06 Excellent result. and cheaper than the water purifer you suggest above. (I was going to buy RO water fro my LFS) At my previous address I had the hole in the pipe connector which kept weeping after a while and the wife was non too pleased.

As BigC said, all you need is a Y-shaped adapter which you can attach to the washing machine cold feed. You can then just either run the RO waste water pipe into the washing machine waste pipe, or into a basin, toilet, out the window... where ever. My machine is wall mounted in the utility room/shed. I drilled through the wall to feed the pipes into old salt buckets. I then use the waste water for washing the yard off (I have dogs) or watering the plants. You don't need to "plumb" the machine in, only if you intended having it in your kitchen and wanted the unit/pipework hidden.

Thats a massive unit AK how many gallons/ltr per day.

Hi BigC,

You know what, I don't actually remember. I got it 2nd hand off eBay for £76 delivered which included the six stage unit and about 5 spare filters, all unused and in its original box. Had a bit of a result with that lol. Its 1/4" diameter tubing so think its 75GPD. I then bought various tap valves, the pressure guage and TDS meter. It'll pay for itself in no time at all, as I've already gone through 150L of water which would have cost me £22.50 from the LFS.

Exactly why I bought a small unit. paying for water and live rocks are we mad!

cost me 200 dollars for a 100 gpd one 5 stage unit (DI is a vertical 10" not a horizontal inline), and i get like less than half that amount due to my water pressure. But its a worthwhile investment. I pierced my pipe.....

I drink the RO and use the RO/DI for the tank. I got mine at www.melevsreef.com

Make sure you get a tds meter with one, i just got those handheld ones. The TDS meter shows if the unit is working or not.
