i was just wondering how long water from my lfs would keep for as it would be convient to get a months worth (of course id get more than i need just in case) wow all this has taken me 10 mins to type on my psp :S

I remember reading somewhere that if sealed correctly it can last for up to 5 weeks so you should be fine for a month :good: (I think it was Steelhealr that said it)

I usually make about 3weeks worth in a go and it lasts fine for me

Yeah if you cover the water up or better yet seal it in buckets, it'll last for a long while RO water will last a couple months, saltwater should be checked for salinity and calc/alk/pH balance before its added should it sit for too long

oki dokey thanks. do you guys no of any where like in the uk that sells big tubs/ water carriers

Hi rhysi, im in the same problem as you, but ive found that if you search for water containers on ebay, it come up with lots of them, and they're all sealable...
Only problem is whether they are suitable for the RO water....COs i dont know if they would leach anything into the tank water...Can anyone help? Ive seen lots that say "suitable for human compsumtion", but even if the water from the containers ok for humans, what about delicate marine fish???

Thanks, Mikey

hmmmm i remember getting told RO only lasts for 24hrs..... might be wrong though, i'd believe these guys over me!

Do you have to get yours from the LFS miss wiggle??? If so, what do you put it in?

Thanks alot, Mikey

Cool. Was it hard to set-up???

Mikey

not the new one, we got one from osmotics, got it delivered last night, was set up in 5/10 mins, then 20mins or so flushing it, set it running and had enough for a water change within a few hrs. was only £50 or so, will definately pay itself back in no time. I worked it all out before, the price of RO and the amount you need for a 30g system like ours, it'd take something like 8 months for you to have spent more than that on RO from the shop. If your planning on having the tank a while (which surley anyone would be?!?) then it's well worth it to get your own.

:)

Guys/Ladies looking for suitable storage containers, go no further than a camping store! :good: The water containers suitable for drinking water should surfice. They generally hold around 20-30L each.

if it says suitable for human consumption or food safe, or something like that, it'll be just fine. MOST (95%+) plastic containers are just fine for transporting RO water.

Edit: And if RO water is covered and in a plastic container it will last for a very vey long time. The only thing that makes RO water different from most other sources is that its 95-99% free of all solutes or other contaminants. Therefore so long as you keep your container covered to prevent contaminants from getting in the water, it can sit for months. Pure water will not solvate any foodsafe container so you're just worried about keeping the water closed up during storage (also prevents evaporation ;))

hahaha wow thats incredibly convienient for me as there is a camping store directly oposite my lfs (its on a huge garden centre)

I just went to my LFS and bought premixed saltwater and purchased one of those containers. It cost me about $13, but you can find it cheaper. My lfs is somewhat expensive. :/
