With the weather over here in NY reaching rediculous levels. the temp in my tank is rising a little higher then what the heater is set at. I have it set at 78 degrees but during the day my house tends to heat up and the temp in the tank hits about 82. I only have 2 zebra danios right now but I know that they like the temp in the 70's. Is there anyway to kepp the temp from getting to high cuz I know once summer gets here it will only get worse.

temps at 82 degrees will be fine for your fish....even up to 86 for short periods of time....

your best bet at lowering temps is to float a frozen water bottle in the tank (make sure to constantly monitor the temp - in a small tank it can drop fast) or removing the lid and having a fan blowing over the top of it...but i would NOT remove the top with zebra danios as they are known to jump...

i would only take these measures if the tanks are above 82/84 constantly...but right now NY is in the 60s and 70s so i'm sure you're not too worried ATM :p brrrrrrr

If 82 is really as high as it gets you have nothing to worry about.

I found that propping the lights up a couple of inches on wooden blocks and then using a fan to blow across the top helps immensely. My tank was getting up to the mid 80's but since lifting the lights up it's staying right around 76-77. My house is usually at 78 degrees.
