I have my first nano of 10 litres,
where I have 15 rice fish which are yellow and white.

it is built up with substrate plant care and sand on top.

It has now started to grow so much that I have to cut it once in a while 😃

but I am starting to get a surface with a lot of dirt.
what can i do about it?
I don't have a pump or anything, just lights and houseplants to take nitrite

You have soil under the sand? It sounds like the substrate got disturbed somehow. Can we see some pictures of the dirt on the surface?

Get yourself a small aquarium siphon with a bulb for pumping water. Something like the one below. Skim the dirt off the surface with a fish net, then do a large water change, being careful not to disturb the substrate.

With a soil substrate you need to be careful about ammonia and nitrite, especially if the substrate has been disturbed. Vigorous plant growth will take care of most of it, but it can still be a problem. Do you have a test kit?

i change a few large cups of water, a few times a week, and just made it so maybe a little hard to see.
I can see on many youtube videos that people do not use a pump, and i dont have a pump to

I'm just posting a picture of my soil which is under the sand.

I dont have a test kit yet

Your plants look great! Could we see a pictur of the whole tank? I've never kept ricefish so I'm interested in them. I can't see any dirt on the surface, just some bubbles. Maybe it isn't too bad.

Lots of people get by without a pump siphon, but it is the easiest way to change water in a smallish tank. I don't like working harder than I have to. :)

Well, in order not to use a pump, one should have enough plants in the tank to do the natural filtering. Or have a higher frequency of water changes.
