After over 3 Years of being thru 2 house moves an 6 different Tanks, My Pandas died last week.

They both came down with Popeye very suddenly and were dead the next morning, just as i was about the medicate the tank.

Very sorry for your loss :( :rip: pandas dont often live as long as other pandas so think to yourself youve done wel with how long youve had them!

Yeah - i had bought more pandas since, but they were not as strong as my original group of 3. they had changed color to an almost peachy beige and the black markings were more grey with age.

yea, and in humans old age makes more prone to illness and the slitess thing could have killed them. i had 2 pandas as my lfs only had 2. so i bought them they got some more in and i bought two more and one died but they gave me a free new one. i think some pandas are very prone to illness' where as some arent. heres a pic of two of mine earlia

as you can see one is paler than the other. (these are two diff batches)

Sorry to hear that. By the way, what water parameter did you kept them? Don't get me wrong, I think you kept them well since I think 2 years is longer than most people can keep them.
IMO, just like any other fish, Pandas get weaken by the stress of shipping. By the time, we find them in store, some just can't bounce back from that. That is why some of them die within a week or 2.
Although I have no scientific long studied date or anything but I also believe most of the hobbiest are keeping them in compromised environment for them to really thrive. They usually keep them in community tank in around 75F with around 7~7.2 ph.
But I found them do much better if they are kept cooler 68~72F and 6.5~7ph. With high oxygenated clean water with some current. After all they are originated from the base of river near the mountain I read. I have tank full of young in 5G with 550L power head(145GPH I believe) with sponge attachment. And even tiny month old try to swim against the current. I just moved the adults to another tank few days ago.
Anyway, I don't know the long term yet that I only having them for year or so. And another 6month, I probably can't tell the difference between adults and the some of the young. We'll see how long they would live. Well, at least I have enough replacements. Since nothing last forever, unfortunately.
Anyhow, good luck with new Pandas. I think they are cute fish.
:fish: :fish: :fish: and more :fish:

I found Cooler water temp suited them aswell. I have only ever used 25watt heaters as that way if even turned up high, the temp still remains cool.

Hi Gill,

I'm so sorry to hear about your pandas. You kept them in good health for a long time. Will you be getting more of them or another kind of cory?
