Recently, my favorite Betta in the whole world passed away. I was cleaning his tank, and put him in a jar with the lid loosely on top... I found him a few minutes later on the counter, and placed him in his tank with a lot of IAL and stresscoat, but in the morning I found him near death and he passed away after I had the chance to say goodbye to him for a few minutes.
I really think he deserves a memorial thread, even if I'm the only one who reads it, because he was a WONDERFUL little guy with the most personality of any Betta I've ever met. He knew to come right up to his feeding hole when I tapped his tank, and he would jump up to eat from my hand. He was always, always flarey and active, and he was kind of a freak what with the occasional tail-maiming, but he was always healthy. And, he was the best Dad any fry could wish for. He took care of each and every one of his 400 eggs dutifully, and he was extremely depressed when he was seperated from them. I think he could've been one of those boys that would happily live with his fry for weeks afterwards. I feel horrible, and I feel as though it's really my fault that he passed away, I really expected him to be with me for the next 3 or 4 years... but, he died very happy and healthy and with a whole legacy of babies and grandbabies.
These are some of my favorite pictures of him... he was such a show-off. I'm sorry for so many pics...
I also wanted to add in a memorial for my 2 sisters that were given to me, Bermuda & Jamaica. They were so sweet together and so amusing, they did not deserve to die Ever since I got them, I noticed a lot of swim bladder issues, and they passed away just a month after I got them, within a few days of each other. They were apparently very overfed in their first home, and also had mouth fungus. I really, really dislike their breeder... this is the kind of breeder who doesn't "feel" up to seperating a male and female after spawning, so she just leaves them in a 10 gallon together for weeks after the spawn is over and lets them rip each other up. I loved them to pieces... RIP little girls
