Just bought a Jewel Rio 180 fish tank second hand. After filling it up I moved it a little with my hand to check if it was stable and have noticed that the tank wobbles slightly,is this normal?. I never noticed this on my previous tank which was 90 litres but had a larger stand. Are these stands safe?. I'm worried there might be a disaster. Grateful for any advice Thanks. photo below

The rio's are rock solid and should move at all, maybe it not 100% level.

Ps if their common goldfish your tank is too small mate, even fancy ones your on the border line :good:

If that wobble worrys you maybe you could take a good look at it. You would, obviously, have to take your water level right down, probably re-home your Goldfish for a while, switch off your filter and move the tank. Take the stand somewhere outside and have a real good look at it on a hard, stable platform. That is what i did before mine went in the living room (very similiar to yours), the thought of that amount of water going over had me scrutinising EVERY bolt, hinge and screw! There is nothing wrong with trying to tighten up each screw etc. you come across as well.

Terry.

can you describe the 'wobble' a bit more?

Is the tank 'wobblying' on the stand, or is it the stand causing the 'wobble'?

If the tank is wobbling it's either not on a completely flat surface or there is some form of deformation on the plastic housing. Neither are good news as it means that the weight of the water is not being properly supported across the entire footprint of the tank, and that can lead to high areas of pressure/stress from. This in turn could lead to glass or seals 'failing' (cracks).

Maybe (Wobbles) is the wrong way to describe it,. When I put my hands around the top of the tank and move them back and forth gently you can feel the tank and water moving slightly, apart form that it seems sturdy enough and is level as in the bubble is between the lines on the spirit level.

ok, so it sounds like the tank is rocking on a pivot point somewhere on the base, so my comments above still apply.

Have you tried it on another flat surface (floor maybe)? This will show if it's the tank base of the flatness of the stand that's the issue.

So am i right in thinking that there should be no movement at all?, what is a pivot point,. if its the tank what to do after that?
