Bit of an edit - originally wanted to know if an EX1200 would fit in a Rio 180 cabinet, now want opinions on whether the stand that came with my Rio 180 looks up to the job... photos below.

Hi all

I tried searching on this a few times, but wandered if a Tetratec Ex1200 would fit into the cabinet of a Rio 180? The filters are quite big, but hoping that it might just squeeze in?

Thanks

Nick

some information on that here

thanks both for the replies - i should have put in my first post, but i actually have the filter, but not the cabinet...i've tried to find the internal dimensions of the cabinet etc but thats where im struggling...!

if buying it second hand or brand new, just ask the seller to measure the internal dimesions.

will do...think ive found them online and filter is a bit big...maybe time for some diy!
thanks

this is what the tank came with...its a solid metal frame, and has taken the weight of me and two of my hefty friends (combined maybe 250kg). my biggest issue with it is that its putting all the weight through those legs, not distributing it like you would expect. it fits the tank perfectly.

maybe i will have a look at for a decent tv cabinet in the furniture shop near me...

hmmm I'm a big advocate of metal stands (metal be strong) but I'm a bit concerned that that stand appears to have no bracing structure (bars or lower frame etc.)...

i.e. it has plenty of up/down support, but nothing protecting the legs from side impacts....

I wouldn't use a TV stand either! ;p

These old metal stands go pretty cheap second hand, I would sell yours and keep an eye out for one (I got a 4ft one for £10).

Maybe not TV stand but I thought a good solid cabinet/sideboard would work... something like this?

Again it a case of 'what is the thing designed for' rather htan how strong its/what its made of. its a good strong bit of furniture, but isn't designed to handle the constant stress of the weight of water.

If you want furniture rather than a stand, you could buy something like that but install your own wooden bracing frame inside?
