Hi i have posted on the malawi section and they seem to be a no no for my rio 180 tank, are south american cichlids going to be a problem? or is they just need 55g tank or more?

Well, what the Dimesions of the tank? What do you want? single lunker? few medium sized ones? dwarfs? peaceful cichlids? Agressive cichlids?

you could keep quite a few types of cichlid in a 180.

german blue rams
apistos
dwarf pike

possibly sajica but i'm not sure.

Yeah there are quite a few SA cichlids depends on the type. With SA/CA there are more "peaceful cichlids" and a lot of dwarfs that will work in a 180.

Agreed with Liam at his list, would disagree with the sajica if you want to keep others. Been hearing about a lot of really aggressive ones.

There are loads to do with the tank but you just need to decide what kind of tank you want before we start suggesting things :)

angelfish
discus (might need a bigger tank)
blue rams
bolivian rams
apistogramma species
keyhole cichlids
convicts
firemouths
blue acaras
dwarf acaras
cryptoheros species
archocentrus species
thorichthys species
festivums (might need a bigger tank)

I'm sure there are others too.

I have a community tank with a pair of dwarf cichlids
No problems at all - just keep the water quality good
:good:
