:good: A big thankyou sharoncc...wilder has realy helped me ...will follow the advise she has given me and will let you know how i get on...big huge thankyou to you both x

rdd1952 thankyou...i have not given my water results has that would have been more ammo for every one....also as i am putting ammo lock in the tank still the ammonia will be a false reading...i forgot that myself and thought the ammonia was going up again....but was not..its the ammo lock...

PH 7.2
nitrate 10
nitrite 0ppm
ammonia will give a false reading

i am still doing water changes daily ...but will be cutting down to every 2nd day now..

riley is still very ill..the damage has been done through the ammonia...all the other fish are still eating and seem very happy...

i am selling the tank and fish and if riley makes it he will have a bigger tank of his own...but i think riley has been like this to long now...

he is still on his side...when he try's to swim he just spins round...he does still get excited when he see's me...but cant get to me...

he has full colour and on one side looks in perfect health...but the side he is laying on the fin is wearing away also the eye is very cloudy...i think this is due to laying on the gravel for over a week now...

can some one please advise me as what i should do now....do i hold on to riley and see if he pulls through or would it be kinder to him to let him go...he seems back to health but cant swim thim is not fair to him...i dont know if he will be able to swim again....

can any one give me some advise please...thank you sharon

Hi Sharon

I have just read the other post and i am really sorry for how you have been treated buy the obvious Forum Bullies who would rather have a rant than help someone like you who has come to ask for help! (Its not the first time they have done it and prob wont be the last!)
The best thing to do with them is ignore there usless posts and dont give them the satisfaction of fighting back. (Very hard i know)

Anyway i really hope the help you are getting now is working.

Please keep us updated.

Good Luck

hi sharon how are ya?
hopefully this new thread will help you get some answers at last
your in good hands with wilder :D hope rileys lookin up
scot :good:

Even if the ammonia reading is false because it has been treated with Ammo-Lock, it would still let someone know how fast it is building and rising. Even with large fish that produce lots of waste, you should not see an increase so large that you need to do 90% WCs daily to keep it down. I strongly suspect that you have filtration problems, most likely with the UGFs, that are keeping it so high.

In any case, I hope you get the help you need here to treat and save Riley although it soesn't sound good. Good luck.

hi...i didnt explain my self very well..sorry..

i am only doing 20% water changes daily...i only done 90% on the first 3 days...

the ammonia has droped and is not rising....i got worried as thought it was..i was wrong..
i have also since then cut the fish food down by half..i have done 3 gravel cleans when i done the major water changes..

i am confused though as i am still putting ammo lock in...should i still be doing this ???

i have checked all filters and they are all running ok....

i hope this helps a bit more...

AND SOME GOOD NEWS...Riley is now laying on his belly...still not swimming but straight.

thankyou again for closing my last post...i am now getting positive reply's...and good advise from wilder...wow help at last..thankyou

Sharon I am so sorry for the abuse you have received. i know how it feels when a beloved fish is ill :( Ignore the bullies, leave them to sit there feeling all superior, it is the only chance they get to feel good I think. Sad but true. Anyway, the important thing is Riley. I am glad he sounds a little better, but I do think if he takes a turn for the worse then you should euthanize him. terrible I know but you are obviously really hurting watching him suffer. Though I do have my fingers crossed for a miracle for you.

Hi there

I've been keeping an eye on Rileys progress but didnht want to reply to the other post as it go WAY out of hand
It's nice top see he is starting to sit on his belly now instead of his side , hopefully he will beat this though he could be left not being able to swim very well even when he gets better but as long as he can eat and seems healthy and happy then i'm sure you wont mind him swimming odd .
I had a blackmoor that had swimbladder disease (i know thats different to what poor Riley has) even when he was fully cured he ended up swimming upside down and on his side but he mated well with the females lol and has been alive for 13 years - he spent 4 in a tank and the rest of the time he has been in my grandads pond and he is still going and still swimming on his side and upside down .
I know a lot of people would have euthanised him but he still eats well and chases the males when a female is laying and my grandad said he is still the first up when foods around - he's also one of the chubbiest fish - they're getting fed up again to winter over .

Take care and good luck with Riley

oh excellent sharon, i am so pleased that he is recovering.

can you let us know what the ammonia reading is in the tank right now, i appreciate that it's a false reading from the ammo-lock but it will still help us to understand the situation. :good:
