:wub: She's gorgeous. How old is she? Hubby and I got two puppies a month before we got married. A red female and a male the same colour as your Elsa. Our female, Venus, was an impossible puppy. She ate everything, including our baby trees we'd planted. But she did mature into a beautiful, loyal "lady" and I do miss her loads (when we sold our house in South Africa to immigrate here, the new owners took over our pets, they LOVED the Rhodesian Ridgebacks).

Got any more pics of her? She is a beautiful creature.

:good:

:wub: She's beautiful!!

I'd love to see a pic of her ridge! :whistle: lol

Not a very good photo but this is our Bruno...

He's 3/4 ridgeback and 1/4 collie

A bit smaller than a full ridgeback and only shows a ridge when he gets excited

I absolutely adore Ridgebacks and am dying to get one but alas...all is against me:

* no money
* no room in apartment
* 5 cats

Not sure how they'd do with cats and since they are big dogs I'd need to do a little research..
Maybe when I move to Florida....?!?!

Oops..almost forgot to say....SHE IS AWESOME!

we also have a cat.they get on ok.i guess its an uneasy truce between them,but ridgebacks have a very strong chasing instinct,so anything small be it dog,cat,rabbit you name it they chase it.
but she has never attacked the cat or anything else.shes a soppy teenager who always wants to play. this is her as a pup.the cat wa the boss in those days

My Bro inlaw has 3 2 males 1 female. They love to chew lol even started chewing his bumber on his car
would not class them as a gaurd dog but make a very good watch dog
As for cats tricky one. as mention above if the cats runaway they after them like a bullet but I have 1 cat thats stands it ground and they leave it alone

They do love chewing. Our female ate a brand new, thick leather collar full of studs that was attached to her brother, as well as a passion fruit tree, other trees and gum poles. Terrible chewers when puppies. We had another male, our female had one puppy (our neighbour had a rhidgeback and they were mated) and he "ate" my velvet dress on the wash line, as well as hubbys new jeans and towels we got as wedding gifts :angry: . He was a naughty puppy

I beg to differ. While I was 7 months pregnant with our first, I was outside hanging up washing and some guy came off the street, and was creeping up on me while I was pegging the clothes. My male came flying out of no where. I thought he was going to attack me, but charged past and nearly ate this guy. Of course he apologised and basically ran for it because the female arrived with our German Sheppard. Unfortunately our male (the brother) had to be put down because of sever hip and foot problems. He had a number of operations, but nothing helped). We were then robbed when our son was 4 months old and they attacked the dogs and hurt them. Unfortunately, they came back the following year when I was pregnant with our second son, and our rhidgebacks went mental. I only knew they were there because the females bark was so urgent. She wouldn't let them near the house, even though they were armed and was ready to kill if she had to. Thankfully they fled because they saw me looking at them through the window and I told them I'd called the cops. Had she not warned me who knows what would have happened. Because of all these incidents, she wouldn't allow me to walk around outside without her permanently attached to my hip. They were so faithful and in my opinion, brilliant watch dogs.

And as for cats, our lot got on with all the other pets. One of our cats even had kittens that she kept moving and even took outside. The dogs just sniffed them and went off.

I miss them terribly. They were wonderful and even very protective of the kids when they arrived and very tolerant too.

They do have average guardian instincts. Females in most breeds make better personal Guards due to their natural instinct to protect their young. that would go to explain a lot about youre female behaviour and males are more territorial. But they are a hound and primarily designed for hunting. Also the fact that most strangers that come to the house fall for them and go over to the fence petting them.

Dogs such as Doberman, Rottweiler, German shepherd and a lot of the mastiff breeds make far better Trained guards

But this is just my opinion other may be different :)

BTW this is my sisters and her husbands dogs

As you can see they are up to mischief and stole that quilt off the washing line ^^ Caught red handed!!!!

One lying down is Sheba the mother and the oldest. One at the front is Indie the father and one at the back is Jake the son and the biggest and still growing. She had a litter of 14. 2 died

:hyper: Wow, gorgeous lot they are. And 12 pups. That must have been a lot of work. Our 2 were from a litter of 16 and 2 died there too. Unfortunately, the mother got billary just weeks after the pups were born and eventually passed away. They were only 5 or 6 weeks old then. When we went to pick our two up, she'd already passed away. But their dad was a huge monster of a thing and gorgeous.

When our female Venus has her puppy, he was the only one!! She got massive, but only had one pup. He was a huge puppy though and already at 3 weeks, we were struggling to keep him out her food bowl. He grew into a massive boy.

I think it depends as well where you are and what's going on around you how dogs turn out. Most of our neighbours had German Sheppards and Rhidgebacks, and they were all very protective and the neighbours next door had two who attacked people a few times. Of course, the "victims" where breaking into their house at the time.

Our male used to be as protective over me before we had him put to sleep. I couldn't go anywhere without Spike under my hand. But our puppy Orion wasn't. He just wanted to play and knock you over. I have loads of pics, will have to dig some up sometimes and start a thread of all the pets we had before we moved over here.
