hi there all, i just finished with the sump and the tank has salt and live rock in,the only problem and hope you can give me nice advice...

my tank holds 250 litres and my return pump is 4300 liters,my filter works by overflowing through filter media into the sum and getting pumped back into the tank, the pcv pipe i use is 25mm wide and about 1.5 metres of piping,my return pipe is rated for 2,5 - 3 metres,so the one inlet i have back into the tank creates alot of flow and the few things thats on the rocks seems to be moving to much around with all the flow, is that ok to have quite a heavy flow ? im trying to break the current a bit to let it face to the back of the tank...

The amount the pump is rated for is less than 20x the volume. On top of this it is going through pipes and pushing against head so purely too strong is most likely not an issue. The most likely cause of problems will be in the flow being too jet like (very strong in the middle but nothing out wide). I would recommend trying to break the flow by having the return come through some rock work to deflect the flow into a larger number of directions.

What I did on my sump was "T" off the return to lower flow rate so some goes into main tank and some returns to other end of the sump.

I got my "T" peice from the garden pond section for 99p It only one that was my size to fit pipe!

TBH

The main reason I did this was my pump was emptying sump quicker than it was coming back in!

Didnt wanna burn pump out!

ALSO

I have noticed you have put this post in the section for NANO's?? 250ltr isnt NANO

Please use correct posting methods!

andy, im running a return pvc pipe of the length of my tank with 1 elbow at the end and 3 T pieces in between it runs like a bomb, flow is very nice a suttle and im running my seio in there as well, thanks for the help.. just hope the elbow on the head of the pump runs ok,it fitted very strongly over the outlet so it should be ok,didnt want to use pvc cement... been running for 7 hours without probs...
