While reading a post about African Dwarf Frog, I started reminiscing about my old ADF (when I was about 7...15 years ago...) I was absolutely fascinated with Kermit (very original), so I decided to "pick him up" and hold him. I successfully scooped him out of the tank, but to my horror, the brown frog jumped out of my hand and onto the brown carpet. After a few frantic minutes, I found him and plopped him back into the safety of the tank, vowing to never hold another tank occupant.

Too bad I don't have a hood on the tank I could house a ADF in, or I would get another one in a heart-beat. Cutest little guys...

What are some of your first memories (preferrably no major horror stories) of fish-keeping?

lol dix, good thing you didn't squash him into the carpet

My earliest bizaar fish keeping memory is of a goldfish I had when I was around 7, his name was Orange Roughy and I had him for years, my step-dad had won him for me at the state fair and he had to be the toughest little guy. I tried several times to add a buddy to the tank for him but everytime I'd wake up the next morning and it would be dead.

Eventually I finally saw what the problem was. I added a goldy and watched closely as Orange Roughy circled his new tank mate then before my eyes (I kid you not) he began frantically smashing the new fish into the glass repeatedly and it went belly up just like that  It happened so quickly...I suppose he'd developed a skill after all of the previous kills. Guess he didn't like the idea of sharing his space.

Sounds like an off the wall story but...it's true,it flipped me out. That's actually what got me to buy my first betta,my sudden admiration of fighting fish :hey:

I dunno if this really compares. But about 2 years ago one of my koi jumped out of the pond. My dad wandered out and found him. He has probably been out of the water for a good 4 or 5 minutes. Either way I ran outside. got my hands wet and grabbed the poor koi. Started to to move him back and forward in the water to try and stimulate breathing... After about 15 minutes of this he was finally able to sorta swim. By this time the other koi/goldfish had basically come up and started to watch my take care of their buddy. Eventually I let him go to see if he could swim. To my suprize the other koi/goldies swam right beside him. Very close. Sorta keeping him upright.. since he was still a bit crooked do to being out of water (don't know technical term). But they just swam around in circles for a while til the fish was able to do it on his own. Hes still out there today. Its neat, he still has marking from this ordeal. Anyways thats my storry. Hope you enjoyed it.
