hi guys,

ive a 63 litre fish tank which has been running for about a year and a half now. We have had a few fish die and not replaced them and am now thinking about getting some new fish. We currenltly have 6 neon tetras and a plec. i really want a Betta Splenden and having researched a bit realise i should only get one male. What i would like to know is what else i could put in the tank thats unlikely to fight?

I think i should have a bit of room left and really love small fish like the barbs or colourful ones and would prefer ones that are unlikely to breed as we end up looking after the fry which takes a lot of work. Im also concerned as i realise some barbs are agressive

Are there any suggestions?

Thanks

beta will get on fine with alot of other fish like most tetras will be fine but stay away from fish like gourami's and guppies and colourful fish that look like betas, Will be fine with neons i got a male beta in a tank with 12 harquline rasboras, 7 corys, 2 rummynose and a bunch of glowlights and absoutly no problems, Just make sure the current isnt to strong or it will hide behind the filter cause they dont like fast flowing water cause thier fins anr more for show than swimming ahgainst current. So yea get one.

thanks,

I was in the fish shop today to see what they sold and i cant remember what half of them were called. My male guppy hides under the filter sometimes now (hes getting moved) and i had never thought about the current being to strong. My boyfriends just moved the angle of the filter so hopefully that will be ok now.

Shrimp should be OK, so long as they're big enough not to be eaten!
As for barbs - most will anger the Betta. Cherry barbs are more friendly and you should get away with them, but def. not tiger, odessa, rosy - anything like that.
I would agree with above - go for some tetra / rasbora / maybe some sword-tail?

thanks,

We are thinking about changing our fry tank into a community tank so maybe will put some fish taht wouldnt agree with the betta in there, i love the sword tails but i wondered if they looked too much like the female fighters? We will prob just put more tetras of a different kind in with the beta now
