I went out one morning to a mates house and there is this little fella laying on the lawn, so i got some meat and put him back under a bush hoping his family would be near and come and get him, I was out for a few hours and when I got home he was back on the grass sunning himself!
I thought he was to young to be out be himself and phoned my husband to see if he new what to do and he said he should not be out yet and if i didn't do something with him he would not last the winter.
I new we had a local hedgehog rescue centre near us in Queniborough but did not know where it was so rang a local vet who gave me a ladies number and once i explain to her about him she told me to bring him right down.
so after getting my son to gently pick him up we put him in a cardboard box and took him to the rescue centre, the lady was very happy with his weight and said she would feed him up and he would be able to go out once she had got his body weight up.
She also asked me to go out into the garden and listen for squeaks just incase his family had come back looking for him but could not find or here anymore.
Bless him he looks such a cutie i just couldn't leave him lol

Awww - glad he made it... the little ones get hypothermic very easily and confused about whether to hibernate. (At least, that's what the hedgehog rescue people told a friend who tried to rescue one!) I'm so glad yours is ok... hope he grows big and fat and can be released.

Yes i hope he gets nice and fat to, the lady said it was a good job i found him as flies lay eggs on them and when they hatch they bury into the skin and thats when the problems start with infections, but he is safe now and being fattened up nicely lol

Oh no, he/she is too cute. I love hedgehogs. They are so adorable. Great pic.

I hope the little thing does well. Such a gorgeous little face.

Good luck and good on you for rescuing him.

:good:

when i 1st walked by him i thought i will put him under a bush with some food just in case his mum was around, but when i came back and he was still there i just couldn't leave him, i didn't relise that hedgehogs are endangered!!!!
He is a little cutie and even my 18 year old son took a photo of him on his phone to show to his mates lol so he is just as soft as me

LOL he may look cute but it was really hard trying to pick him up without getting stabbed by his spines lol they don't look that hard but when they curl up they are rock hard, my son just gently rolled him on to his hand and we both went arrrrrrrrrrr when we saw his face lol

Still though, i always thought about how great it would be to have a pet rescue hedgehog.

One night earlier on this year sometime in early spring, me and my fiance were walking back one night from the pub. The area where i live in is really nice, everybody has a small patch of garden where i live, so there is a lot of wildlife around here even though where i live is not far from the town centre.
On our way back from the town centre, we encountered a hedgehog sniffling and scuttling around, i couldn't believe my eye's as i had not seen a hedgehog up so close before. I was quite shocked at how tame hedgehogs are, we stood right next to it watching it doing its own thing collecting up slugs and snails on the wet grass, apparently hedgehogs are so tame towards people because they don't really have any predators in the wild that they have to worry about, so they don't worry about people either :)

Yeah we have hedgehogs in our back garden, if we go out at night we can normaly hear them, they make so much noise when they eat lol, i always put out a bit of cat or dog food and they always tuck in, the kids love to watch them.
We live near a green area which has houses all around it and if you come home late at night you will see them waddling along lol they are so sweet, i think people forget when they put slug pellets down they are not only killing the slugs but the hedgehogs to!!!
That was why it was so weird seeing this little fella all on his own (i think of him as a he lol) i even went out at night to listen for squeaking to see if there was any more but his mum has either moved on or got hurt.
I am just glad we have two ladies in our area that know how to look after them

Yeah with my garden, ever since i started work on it about 2 years ago when i bought my house, i have always tried to keep the garden as wildlife and environmentally friendly as posible right from the start :good: .
I never use stuff like slug pelets for the same reasons as you don't, i don't wanna harm any hedgehogs, i've had a few casualities like half of my tomato plant crop been decimated by slugs this year, but on the other hand i look at other people's gardens in my area with people that do use slug pelets and pesticides and stuff and their gardens, and their gardens don't seem to have any less slugs than mine  .
I'd rather let the natural predators like hedgehogs, ladybirds, centipede's, birds, frogs. spiders etc deal with pests in my garden rather than just dowse the whole garden in herbcides and pesticides and kill everything off :good: .

Awwww... wook at the wittle face!! SO adorable!!!
lol i know thats what i said when my lad picked him up for me.
I don't use chemicals on my plants either as i have a cat, dog, kids and my plants look as good as those who do so i dont see any point, i know one neighbour leaves beer out for the slugs and the like the smell and fall in, what a way to go drunk in beer lol.
