Hi I have rescued these fish amongst others from a total idiot.
The tank they were in had no light, no filter, a nonworking heater
and almost black water.

any way I think they are some kind of tetra but no idea which ones.
after 1 hr with my bad camera these are the best shots.
I hope they're good enough.

Possibly Buenos Aires tetras; Hemigrammus caudovittatus. One of my favourite tetras but have a tendancy to nip at live plants.

Ok it's not them.

They are approx 3" long have olive green bodies with a dark green line running down the center from head to tail. Where the line meets the tailfin it becomes black and slightly expanded, continues to end of tailfin.
All other fins are orange, to the point of becomming almost red at the tips.
the face looks very much phirana shaped.

Fine. I still concur with CFC. From the fuzzy picture and your description, I would say they are Hemigrammus caudovittatus. What makes you think they are something else?

ok, the picture on fishbase is not the same as a google search
so thanks LL and CFC. It is them indeed.
