He has fin rot SOOO bad... but he caught my eye because he has one of the pretiest butterfly patterns I have ever seen. He's going to be absolutely GORGEOUS when I get him healthy again.

However, in addition to his fin rot, I think he has a bit of mouth fungus... As soon as I move tanks around, he will go in the hospital bowl with some colloidal silver, salt, anti-fungus, and possibly a bit of coppersafe. One of his ventrals is either all curled up close to his body or almost completely missing, I can't tell for sure. Is there anything else I should do for him, or am I doing too much?

Actually, what you're doing isn't too much, and it's heartening to hear how much you're willing to do for the little guy.

Some Blackwater Extract or Indian Almond Leaves could also help heal up those fins faster, but they aren't a necessity.

Well, I wasn't going to get one, but I saw this little guy... he's SO gorgeous. I can't wait until he is healed... he may just be a VT, but he really is grogeous. :) Maybe I can get some pictures later. :)

I have deduced that the ventral is still there, but it's all curled up. :( Will that uncurl on it's own, or will it always be like that? I've seen the ends of fins curl a bit before, but I've never seen a fin curl so bad that I couldn't tell whether it was there or not. :( Poor guy...

It will probably uncurl. But, if it doesn't, it's okay. He won't be any worse the wear for it.

Honestly, some of my most beloved and prettiest fish are Veiltails. Never knock the Veiltail. I adore them. :)

Well, He is doing much better. I have named him Angel. His fins are almost completely unclamped, except for that one that's all curled up. He's been swimming all over the place, and ate some freeze-dried blood worms last night. :) I put a mirror up to the bowl, and he acted like he wasn't sure what to do at first, he just kept staring at it. Then, he flared a little bit, but still kept staring. When he realized that the fish in the mirror was flaring, though, he went CRAZY! Dancing and flaring all over the bowl. :D Ever since I did that, he's perked right up, and he's even been flaring a little at the plant in his bowl. He's such a cutie... I'm SOOO glad I got him.

Awww.... I love good news. :)
me, too... especially when it's good news about MY fish. ;)

He'll be moved to the 2.5 gallon tonight... he'll be in heaven compared to what he WAS in. :)

LOL!!!

He's in the 2.5 Gallon now. Half of it is just an open area where he can swim around to his heart's content, and the other half is a virtual silk forest... LOTS of plants for him to rest on and hide in. He has been flaring at EVERYTHING! First he flared at his reflection in the side of the tank, then he flared at the plants, then he flared at the thermometer...He's goofy. It really makes me happy to see him doing that, though... it's a far cry from laying at the bottom of a cup with clamped fins and spitting crud from his water out of his mouth every time he opened it. :p

Also, this could just be because I am hoping beyond hope that his little ventral will uncurl, but I don't think it looks quite as clamped as it did yesterday. :D

Now, if Sakana would just poop, all would be well in my little betta world. :/

He sounds so happy. You did a good job with him. :)
thanks. :D

And to think, I went into the store promising myself that I would just get a couple of silk plants, and NO MORE BETTAS!

I've done that a bunch of times.

Sometimes it works...sometimes I come home with two.

Congrats! My VT Orchid has a few curly ended fins, I think thy add to his originality. The fish is lucky to have you. Yay for Angel!
