I have been keeping bettas on and off for 11 years. I have rescued a few. I had a wonderful delta tail I let a friend keep him for awhile. Well now his tail is much shorter then his other fins. I'm putting him in a 10 gal tank all by him self. I'm going to do daily water changes and add a little salt. Any chance his tail will fully grow back? Or will it never be the same? He was such a pretty fish before this happened.

Anyone have have fins fully 100% recover?

His fins should re-grow but i wouldn't add salt, just a half dose of melafix. Are you sure it's not fin-rot?

The fins may not be perfect when they grow back but they shouldnt be terrible.

Yes I know it's fin rot but not the bad kind that were they get red streaks. But the kind from poor water. I have saved a few bettas with fin rot like this before. Mine never did seem to fully grow back. My poor fish I should never gave him away in the first place. I feel awful. Besides the short fins he is still happy.

Sorry got my auto pilot head on

I'm sure with clean water he'll be fine, i've had mine regrow fins completely not perfect looking but at least they re grew :good:

ok fingers crossed. He is a tough little fish. I hope his tail grows back.

Just an update. I moved him to his own 10 gal tank. He is doing great. Fins are all healed up and slowly growing. If his tail fully grow back I will be so happy.

i had two males in a divided tank and one breached the divider ripping each other to shreds(i thankfully was home and noticed very quickly and separated them with no ill effect other than shredded fins)...i did not add melafix or salt or any other such thing. just kept good quality water.
their fins grew back entirely and then some. mind you it took MONTHS to get back to where they started but under good water conditions and a healthy diet, their fins should completely regrow.
good luck.

Thanks very encouraging. I see a little bit of new growth all ready so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I did not name him mr sexy for nothing . I'm so mad at myself for thinking another person would care for him. Grrr.

He is in a 10Gal tank by himself he gets weekly water changes. So I hope his tail grows back fully. I was so proud of this betta. But then I had a baby and has 2 other tank to care for I let a friend take my betta to help me out.

I know it's sad. But he is doing well and I will have to put up an after picture once his fins grow back.
