I currently have a cannister filter that I use to obviously help with filtration but also to house rowaphos and carbon. At present I clean the filter and replace the media each month.

I have read on the DD Solution site that they recommend removing the carbon after a few days as it has done its job by this time.

This led me to thinking how often due other people change/remove their carbon?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

Why do you replace the media each month?

I replace mine every 4 weeks Carbon is a hard call to make as you cannot measure what its taking out every 4 weeks seems fine to me :)

I think Stef means they replace the carbon and phosphate remover each month.

There is a fair amount of debate on using carbon in saltwater systems. Some people say it is only effective for about 24 hours and others say once a month is fine.

Personally I would say replace it as often as you can afford to. If you replace it once a month it may only be effective for a day or two but that's a day or 2 out of the month where extra docs are being removed which can't be a bad thing.
