Hi.
I have got a new tank today.
When I had it set up and ready for cycling, I heard a loud bang (the tiles that the stand´s legs were sitting on had broken) and the vibration must have been enough to put a crack through the tank.
The crack is in the bottom corner, it is short, but it touches the side at each end.
I think that I could silicon over the crack, and also silicon a piece of glass over the crack. Has anyone ever tried this or have any tips on how to do it? The tank is 122cm long, 39cm high, and 45 wide.
I really am stuck for ideas how to fix it, and I don´t really have the money to take it to a tank maker.
I would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
Thanks heaps,
Nathan

Do you have the tank sitting on a sheet of polystyrene? I have heard of people fixing cracks successfully the way you describe, personally i would change the sheet of glass.

Where exactly is the crack, i cant figure that out, is it on the base of the tank?

Yea, sorry, the crack is on the base of the tank. The tank is on a stand, and the stand supports the base of the tank around the edges. So, I don´t use any polystyrene. Do you mean that I should replace the whole bottom piece of glass?

If i was stuck for money i would try what you suggest, just make sure you use aquarium silicon, also use the search function in this section at the bottom of the page i know other people have done this, just try and find the right threads, search for tank repairs or something similar, and read the threads.

If it was a big tank, i would probably be nervous about the repairing the crack the way you describe with a longer term view (will it hold) if the tank was small i probably wouldnt hesitate and just do it.

If you decide to repair the crack use aquarium silicon and let it cure for about 4 days before you add any water to the tank.

Good luck whatever you decide to do :)

put a piece of glass over the crack and silicone to your hearts content! this happened to my old tank and i did this and its still fine to this day! :D *touch wood*
