Fish Fanatic
Evening all,
Just wondering if anyone else out there had got busy modifying a Rena Aqualife. I need to in definitely one way, and probably another... I have the 150cm long tank, with the 2 supplied light units sitting on top.
1) I'm going all salty with this tank - so I need to cut a hole in one of the lid pieces to allow the skimmer cup to actually sit on the skimmer (a Tunze 9010) body. I'm assuming these lids are aluminium, so does anyone have any tips for cutting them? The little pictures on the plastic sheets stuck to them suggest cooling while cutting, but what sort of saw works best? And do I need to treat the cut edge in any way? IIRC from chemistry at school the surface will oxidise pretty quickly just sitting in the air, but I was thinking more about avoiding any corrosion / fish-poisoning issues...
2) To squeeze the skimmer into the back corner, I'm thinking about modifying the light units so they can slide further forwards towards the front of the tank. Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking I could either file longer slots in the tank "hood" (i.e. the metal frame at the top of the tank) - but this would probably take forever and generate a lot of aluminium filings - or of just cutting off the little plastic tabs that locate in the slots. Again, any tips / advice?
Thanks a million,
Paul
