Rena Filstar Filter Not Working

Ive had my filter down all weekend (I assume). The bit that attaches the hoses to the canister was broken, so I replaced that.

When I take that out, and turn the filter on, I get water coming out of the filter output.

As soon as I plug in the hose section there is no suction. The hose is clear and free, I am able to blow water through the input and it pushes water out.

The guy at my lfs says the impeller is working properly (I took the whole thing down and he had a look and tested it with out the hose assembly attached and all was good.)

Can anyone suggest anything??

It now appears to be creating air out of nothing. I fill the canister to over flowing, then after attempting to run it, i get a bubble an inch deep on the top of the canister. Clearly I have a hole somewhere.

Mine does this a lot on my xp4 usually tipping it to side always work's as it removes the air in side (stopping it from been air locked)
