Hi everybody, I've just joined the site and was wondering if anyone can help. I have been given a jewel aquarium but it has been used before and I want to know how to clean off the sealant from the rear glass. The previous owner had cork sheets 'glued' on the inside of the tank and where they have been removed the sealant is still stuck. Is there a way to remove or would I be better using the same internal background.
Also what is the best cleaner to use on the rest of the glass.
Thanks
Chris

First, to remove the sealant you can use a Razor blade.

Second, use it if you like it otherwise use something else.

Third, Aquarium Pharmacuticals sells a glass gleaner that works. You could also use something such as Windex as long as you completely rinse and clean it with freshwater when you are done cleaning the glass. The only major chemical in most glass cleaners is ammonia and this will be removed during the cycling process, but I would still recommend the use of something such as Aquarium Pharm's glass cleaner that is safe for running aquariums also.

Hi, thanks for that, I now have a clean rear (tank - that is). Decided I would like to paint the back ground on the outside rather than use paper. I like the idea of using black paint, but what sort do I use? Would a spray be better than a brush?

Also do I need a heating pad underneath the tank if I want to have real plants or will they grow ok without?

This site is really great.
