Removing Scratches From A Plastic Tank

Hmmm. Searched about a bit through the forums, but can't find a lot...

EBay yielded me a tank with a nice filter recently, but in the vendor's over-enthusiastic attempts to clean the tank, it's been extensively (but not deeply) scratched (I suspect witha brillo pad or some such) Any good tips on removing such scratches? I'm in the UK btw

If by plastic you mean acrylic then there are buffing compounds you can get to work out shallow scratches, but if it's just a plastic tank then I don't thing there's much you can do.
