I found out today that shortly for my job I have to move from London to Manchester.

I am wondering how I am going to move my tank and fish. Will a cool box do the job for keeping the fish warm? How can I reduce the stress?

How long will the bacteria in the filter and the sand stay good for before dying?

Please help.

I am guessing that it will take you about 4 hours if the traffics not bad. you will need to get a couple of poly boxes from your lfs. (they will give you those for free). you will need to bag all your fish into fish bags the lfs may give you some of these. fill the bags 1/3 full and leave 2/3 for air.do not blow in to the bags to inflate because when you breath out it's mostly co2. pack the bags in to the box. try and keep agressive fish seperate. pack out the box with old newspaper if need be. then put your biological filter media into a fish bag and fill just enough to keep it covered with water. try not to let the water stagnate, i.e give it a shake every hour or so..seal the lidon to the fish box and keep the media seperate so that you won't have to open the box every hour, also it will be dark in the box this will reduce stress.

don't forget to add some bacteria to your filter/tank water when you get to manchester and if you can get some 5 tgallon brewing buckets of the 5 gallon camping containers and save as much tank water as possabel. if any of the fish have spines such ar some catfish etc, double bag them. one last point, when you tie the bags up, place them upside down to stop the fish getting stuck in the corners. good luck any more questions- just ask ;)
