Once my 10 gallon has finished cycling, I'm going to convert my 4 gallon into a betta home. Here's what I'd like to do:

- put a divider in the tank to make two 2 gallon sides
- have 1 male betta, 1 apple snail, and 1 ADF on each side

This will mean there are two bettas, two snails, and two ADF's total. If I do frequent water changes, will this be ok (i.e. not too overstocked?)

Second, ADF's and apple snails are compatable, right?

Hmmmm...If it were me,I'd skip the frogs or snails. Frogs are messy and snail poo can be messier, especially apple snails. 4 gallons is awful small for all that. If I'm remembering right I think ADF's need at least 4 gallons apiece. I can't remember for sure I have an ACF who needs at least 10 gallons to himself. Why not just opt for 2 pretty bettas and maybe one snail to switch back and forth from sides? They get huge,my female is the size of a fist now. (apple snails are not hermaphrodites, they are either male or female) Just some ideas. :) But I wouldn't put all of that in a 4 gallon.

I heard a male betta and an ADF could go in a one gallon, and live happily and healthily! Not that I'd do that, of couse. I feel bad about bettas being in one gallon tanks- I always want to buy them a bigger one :p

Are there any snails other than apples that are not hermaphrodites? I haven't kept snails in a couple years because I've had some bad experiences of their babies overrunning my tank.

I'll keep an eye out for some pretty bettas. My lfs has only carried blue or red ones, that I've seen, which are nice. I'm looking for ones with unique colours though.
