I've heard that nipped fins can regrow when the nipper is removed. How long does this take?
PS. I don't have any nipped fins, I'm just currious. :)

It depends on the conditions and the species. Under ideal conditions with most fish a badly broken fin can completely recover in a couple of weeks. In poor conditions, it will get infected and rot away killing the fish.

No simple answer.

silly me stuck my gobies in the 20 gallon tank with all my neon's, platies cories and guppies.

why you may ask? coz i thought the ones i had were 'tame' since they were in a tank with platies and cories in the LFS

now these bumblebee gobies are vicious, first they went after the smallest neons, then the guppies and when they went after my beloved cories....it was the last straw :sly:

they've since been relocated to my 10 gallon with the larger platies (they dont seem to nip at the platies).

ooh, sorry, got sidetracked anyway, the move happened 3 weeks ago, all the nipped neons have had their fins grow back fully since around last week :flex: , but my fancy tailed guppy still has a split in its fin

I have a number od high finned tetra that end up with damage from one source or another, but the damage on my fish is gone within 3-4 days, sometimes seemingly over night

Assuming the cause of the damage isnt likely to continue then i would expect to see noticable improvement within a week or I would be looking at infections
