Hi all,

Just want to find out if anyone has any exprience on this fish and what are the difficulties in keeping the regal tang.. I also heard that these fishes sleep flat on their sides, as if they are dead.. Is it true??

Not sure about them laying on their sides, when I had mines it never did it. It slept between some rocks that's when the anenome was moving and it got on the way :-(. Said that they are ok to keep, they just tend to get white spot easily.

I dont have any personal experience with keeping one however I think they are open water swimmers that need large tanks, although they do look stunning. Im not sure about the sleeping question.

They do often sleep on their sides and sometimes even wedge themselves between rocks. They do get very large and, like said before, are open water swimmers, needing at LEAST a 100 gallon tank.

Easy to keep. I have one. They grow extremely fast and do require space. Very hardy fish.

This fish is easy to keep. Very susceptible to ich / parasites as most tangs are. This fish is fairly peaceful and works well with most other fish. Mine is in a 55 gal now but it is still only 4 inches. I am getting a bigger tank soon to accomodate the full size. For now the there is plenty room to roam.

As far as sleeping... mine wedges under a rock and the sand remaining upright. I would imaging the wedging is so that he doesnt just drift around the tank all night. I would imaging if there is no where to tuck in for the night it may decide to lay on its side...

I'm still amazed at the depth in persoanlity fish have. They all sleep in the same places and you really have to look for them. At night it looks as if I have an empty tank :)

some may sleep on there sides. they do need alot of open swimming space so ideally 100gallon (Uk)+

ste :)

AS has been said they do require alot of swimming space. They are also very prone to itch which leads me to beleive they are easily stressed.

As they grow older they get far less attractive IMO but when young they are stunning

I had one that would wedge itself tail first into a rock crevice at night.
I've been lucky enough over the years to have very few problems with
ich... this royal tang was one that I had ich with!
