Hi, i've never fitted reflectors before but was wondering if instead of paying £8 each for two 36" reflectors could I pay £10 for one 60" reflector and basicly cut in two?

Has anyone done this or something similar?

Or would it be just as effective to use some other form of reflective material on the underside of the hood?

the tank is a juwel rio 180 (original light unit dead so two arcadia 30w light units fitted)

I see no reason why you couldnt chop one in two :)

The cheapest reflector to use is 3" white plastic drainage pipe. Cut it to whatever length you want then slice it down the middle and you have 2 reflectors. Screw two lighting clips througth each of the the halfpipes and attach to the aquarium hood.
Very cheap and effective.

thanks for the reply, i like the sound of cheap and effective

Just had another idea as the piping probably would not fit too well with out a lot messing about. so i was looking on ebay and had a brain wave. how about getting an emergancy foil blanket and covering the inside of the tank hood with it :)
i did look at sheets of mylar as suggested in another reflector thread, but the only peeps selling them were people selling stuff for the growing of cannabis, i don't know about any of you but i did not really want my details on their accounts

There are lots of green house and hydroponics supliers out there who do not target MHJ growers specificaly and sell mylar
