Is there just a straight up answer for how many watts per gallon you need to maintain a reef tank?

No, not really. We don't really use a watt per gallon rule for saltwater. There's different type of lighting each with different amounts of light they emit and different amounts of wattage.

i dont know it exactly but its something like,

2-3W/G = Softies
4-5W/G = SPS
5-6W/G = LPS
