might be a stupid question but if i add reef bones to my tank will it start of another cycle i only want it to fill out my tank a bit

Depends, some reef bones are just dried live rock. There will be a lot of dead stuff on this rock. Which may cause a spike.
You can get cured stuff aswel though which should be ok to put straight in.
The white stuff may cause Ph issues aswel

If i were you i would put a pump and the rock in a bucket of your old water change for afew days first.

Yeah just seconding what Ben has said. If it is cured and it doesnt have to travel far from your LFS to your tank it will probably be ok (I have added new LR to a tank that is already set up with no problems). If you dont have a lot of LR already and you think the reef bones will have a lot of die off then I would do as Ben said and put it in another container to cure it before putting it in the tank.

it seems they only sell it in 40 lb boxes so if i was to put say a couple of kilos in a tub with heater and pump the rest would be ok till that has cured wouldnt it cos i dont have a tub big enough for 40 lb !!!!

Not sure if I have read this right. Do you mean buying a 40lb box, putting some of it in a container to cure and leave the rest in the box? If this is the case then no it wont work as the stuff you leave in the box will die.

As ben said do you have any livestock in the tank already? If you do what size is the tank and how much LR do you have in there already?

I think he meant that if he put some in a container and found it was cured, then if we thought the rest would be safe to add.
