just fallen in love with a new fish at the lfs, i think they called it a reed fish or somet, it looks like an eel, its about 8 - 10 inches long and a yellowy brown colour. They said that i cant keep it with tetra's as it would eat them but man they look amazing when they swim. They look a bit like sea crates, Has any seen these or know what they are called so i can do some proper research on them

what size is your tank?
reedfish/ropefish/snakefish Erpetoichthys calabaricus have the potential to reach 40cm
and need a large tank. they should also be kept in groups

they have the potential to reach 40cm yes but 30cm is far more likely in captivity but yes in groups they r social fellas :good:

they are also suicidal cover the tank completly you would not beleive what they can fit through!!

I have a 5 foot tank. See my lid is weird, its like an added extra, theres glass on the top side and a opening of about 25 cm in the middle along the top of the tank. Im guessing they would jump from the ends or side of the tank not the middle or centre of the tank

I have one right now that is 13 1/2 inches. Its about as round as my pinky finger as well. They do have the potential to grow very large if fed right and givin the proper room. :good:

Search the other threads for information. Search for 'Snakefish', 'Reedfish' and 'Ropefish' and you should find information on them there.
