ok i have one redtail in a 35 hex and looking to find what goes best with redtail so how about the yellow chichlid....i dont want barbs of any kind....and how many????

What do you mean by yellow cichlid? Yellow lab? And by redtail I assume you mean shark, not catfish.

I probably would not, the water requirements of those two fish are rather different. The lab is going to need hard and alkaline water while the shark more neutral. Depending on your sharks temperment, I would think it could actually boss the lab around. My uncle had around 5 yellow labs in his tank at one point and they rather docile as far as cichlids go. I have also seen some very mean sharks, so depending on what you get, the shark could wind up the bully.

EDIT: A 35 hex is far too small for full grown red tail shark anyways.

A Adult Lab would make mincemeat of a Red Tailed Shark.

People underestimate Labs because they are peaceful in Mbuna terms...but compared to New Worlds they are tougher than a Male convict by far.

Huh maybe the labs that my uncle had were peaceful for labs. He kept them with a featherfin for a while and they didn't really do much to it. I don't have any first hand experience with them though so if someone who has first hand experience says otherwise, I would listen to them not me.

indeed. not to mention that the RTBS needs more than 35 gallons, not litres

Tanks to small for the shark

And again the redtail depending on it's temperament will either rule or be bullied to death.
I have one tank where they get along but this is perhaps in out of 15 setup's that was done like it!
(Not my tanks BTW just ones i look after.)
