Ok I already have my sorority tank up and running and I'm thinking in a couple of months of adding a couple of new females to the tank! Before that though I would like to completely strip the tank down and change things round! I want to get some really fine black gravel for the tank as at the moment it has this multicoloured gravel that came with the tank and I dont really like it! I also want to add more plants not sure whether to use real or fake ones yet?

What I want to know is should I wait until I get the other females before doing this change?

Also does anyone have any suggestions of what plants to use whether they be real or fake?

Thanks

I would wait til you get the other girls, then do the tank and add them all (oldies and newbies) at the same time. If you redo the tank with the old fish prior to getting the new ones, you're just going to have to redo it again! When adding new girls to your sorority, you have to re-arrange everything, otherwise you could get some nasty territory battles. As far as plants go, you can go either way. I personally have no green thumb, so all of my plants are silk. I definately prefer silk plants over plastic as the plastic ones can sometimes have sharp edges that could tear into their fins. If I was going to lounge around in plant leaves like my chubby girlies, I would prefer silk to plastic!

I agree w/ Naughty.

Add new and old at the same time w/ the changes in the tank that you want to make. . . (did that sentence make sense? )

As far as plants. . .
You'll need to consider good substrate & light etc to have a good planted tank (for live of course).

If you're just changing gravel - there are some plants that will do great but some won't. And the last thing you need is pouring $$ into plants that will die down the road.

If you don't want the hassle - go w/ silk.

Good luck and I want to see before and after pics !! :)

Thanks guys, I'll start getting the stuff together over the next few months and then I can do it all at once! I think I'll have to go for silk as dont have the £'s to set up a fully planted tank, maybe I'll add a single live plant and see how it does! I've just added another female to my tank last night as my friend got her but we saw a gorgeous VT in the dreaded Pets @ Home that we had to rescue (of course) so my friend said she'd have the male if I had her female in my tank! She seems a bit sad at the moment but luckily she hasnt been picked on by any of the other girls! I will post pics when I start it up! Good job I can get ok pics of the tank shame I cant get any decent of the fish (they hate the camera)
