Hi,

I have a half white/black female mollie that has some redness on the gill plates (both sides)
I originally thought she might have been nibbled on by another tank mate, but now she's looking a bit thin.
She can swim around alright (no clamping fins) but sometimes she just sits at the bottom like she's resting.

We've recently changed 50% of the water and vacuumed the gravel and checked the pH, all of which showed alright. The only thing I can think of it that the temperature could be affecting her (it's been getting to around 40C)

If its a bacterial infection, would I have to remove her from the tank?? I'm pretty worried :(

Hiya,

Redness around the gills often indicates ammonia poisoning. Have you tested your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH recently?

It would also help to know the temperature of the water, as the air temp is rising...

Option number 2, if ammonia and other water parameters are ok;
Red gills can also be a sign of gill flukes/parasites.
Is the breathing rapid?

My mollie is like this too , I have treated her is fungus and white spots , my ph and that is good and so is the tem , what eles could I try ? Thank you

A close up photo would help,

Hope you can see it in the pic
