Was making my weekly check up at my LFS for any new fish and ran across a tank they had with "Red Zebra Danios" in it. Sure enough the little guys had the shape and structure of zebras, but instead of their normal hue these ones are pink. Kind of like Grapefruit pink with blue zebra stripes. Same body structure, fin structure, all that, just grapefruit pink.

My question, is is there such a fish? Or are these an example of "Dyed" fish? They look awesome and if they are real I'm gonna pick some up for my 20 gal wich should only be a couple days away from being fully cycled (allready seeing the nitrites come down). I just want to make sure I'm not buying any dyed fish. Thanks for the input :)

these "red" zebra danios you saw are actually called Glofish and are genetically altered zebra fish who contain the gene of a sea anemone to get the flourescent color which is even more prominent (or so i hear) under a black light. though some people are against the genetic modification of this fish, it wasn't harmed in the process. they will be the same to take care of as regular zebra danios.

Hummm, good to know. I think I might pick up a batch of them then. Did a little poking around myself and pretty much found the same about the genetic splicing. Looks like my tank plans might change :)
