Got a couple of new Red Tailed Rasboras the other day. Didn't notice in the shop, but getting them back home I noticed that one of them had a red dorsal fin too. Is this just a variant in marking or a different species/subspecies? The gold and black stripes are perhaps a slightly different intensity, but it is otherwise the same and they all seem happy swimming together.

I've done a google search for images that show that pattern, but come up with nothing.

Are we talking about Rasbora borapetensis here? Common names vary over the world, so you can never be sure.

I've not had R. borapetensis with red dorsal fins before. I have heard that Malayan specimens, ie. the most southerly extent of their range, do have more red colouration however. Do you know where they came from?

Back on this after a break - sorry.

Sadly the fish in question is no longer with us - a stupid mishap with medications, which I feel really rubbish about. So I can't take a photo but I did see in the LFS the other day that there were others like that, so am likely to be there again soon, and will try to get a picture. I googled to try and find something similar and couldn't see anything quite like it anywhere. I'll ask at the shop what they know about their origin.
